Baby Blues!

***3 MONTHS***

"Caucasian babies are often born with steel gray or dark blue eyes; they may stay gray or blue or turn green, hazel, or brown by the time they're 9 months old. That's because a child's irises (the colored part of the eye) may gain more pigment in the months after she's born, but they won't get "lighter" or more blue."

Vaughn has the prettiest blue eyes at three months. When he was first born they were dark blue and gradually have turned into a medium (gorgeous) blue. It is possible, but would be crazy if Dave and I made a baby with blue eyes when we both have brown. My dad has blue eyes so that means I definitely have a blue eye recessive gene and brown eye dominant gene which is why I have brown eyes. Dave's parents both have a parent with blue eyes so there is a chance Dave has a blue recessive gene. God's creation and plan for every person is so amazing. We get to see it unfold right before our own (brown) eyes.

Not only is his eye color beautiful, the shape and size are very unique to our baby boy. Every time we are out, we get a lot of comments about his beautiful eyes. They're so noticeable because of how large they are.

We love his eyes for so many more reasons than just the appearance. It's amazing how he looks up at us with his big blues followed by a huge smile or squeal. He'll stare and as soon as we smile, his face completely explodes with a huge all-over grin. When I nurse him, if he isn't falling asleep, he stares up at me and amongst distractions, he only looks at me. My heart melts. His eyes also are used to observe. They're large enough for the job! He likes to sit, stare and take everything in. The world around him literally is his eyes' playground. We often look at his very large alert eyes and wonder what it is that he's processing. It'll be soon enough for him to tell us.

Six more months before the color conundrum is solved...an additional eight or nine months before he can tell us what those large eyes of his are helping him see.
