***3 MONTHS***
Shortly after arriving at Benihana on my birthday (January 20), Dave and I received texts from Dusty that read, "Yes! We'd be honored."

We knew from the first moments they spent with our brand new baby boy immediately after he was born that we would entrust his life with his Uncle Dusty and Aunt Jamie if anything were to happen to us. Their love for him was so apparent. First, the fact that they came to the hospital all day long while I was in labor. Then, the looks on their faces when they got to hold him for the first time. And lastly, the words spoken to him as he cuddled in their arms.

We wanted to do something special to ask them so instead of us asking them, we had Vaughn do it. Since Vaughn can't talk yet (I know, a 3 month old can't talk...crazy!), I made a onsie that said, "Uncle Dusty and Aunt Jamie, Will you be my Godparents? (You have 24 hours to respond)." For my birthday, they offered to watch Vaughn so I dressed him with the special onsie under a little long sleeve button-up sweatshirt and pants. We left without saying anything about the onsie.
After we got home from dinner, they told us how it all happened. The question was revealed by Jamie when she was changing Vaughn's diaper after we left, hence the immediate text message. Jamie yelled at Dusty to come see Vaughn. They had a nurse at the house to do some blood work for life insurance. Dusty left the nurse to see what Vaughn had done. He was expecting a big poop. Instead, Dusty saw that Vaughn had a very important question to ask. Jamie and Dusty told Vaughn they would be honored. Vaughn was very excited because he loves his Uncle Dusty and Aunt Jamie just as much as they love him.

We are excited they accepted as there aren't many people we know would ensure Vaughn's life as we would want it. They are very special to us and we can't wait to share many memories in the future especially with their little one who is expected to arrive in July!
